On June 6th, 1956, John and Iola Sobeck opened the first Chicken Shack location in Royal Oak, Michigan. The chain has stayed in the family ever since.
Now, there are 21 locations around the Detroit area where you can grab some of Chicken Shack’s award-winning chicken or baby back ribs.

Stepping into Chicken Shack is like walking into your grandma’s house, with its retro tiling and old-fashioned photos on the walls. You’ll order at the counter before waiting at one of the comfortable tables in the cozy dining area.
The food comes out hot and fresh with a crispy batter perfect for your salty, greasy cravings. You can tell the food is high quality and the flavor is always consistent.
The menu offers options from chicken, seafood, ribs & pork, sandwiches, combos and sides. The slaw is one of the best in the area so make sure you order some with your chicken.
This restaurant is the closest thing to Southern hospitality you’ll find in Detroit with their genuine and friendly staff. You’ll have to wait a little while because they fry the chicken fresh to order, but it’s totally worth it.
