About Portillo’s
Originally called “The Dog House”, Portillos opened in 1963 in Park Villa. The owner Dick Portillo started the restaurant in a trailer. Soon he moved to a more feasible estate and from there it kept growing.
There are 38 locations that are in four states. These states include: Illinois, Indiana, California, and Arizona.
Portillo’s Review
Take a step back into time when you enter these doors. The essence of old time mid 60’s Chicago will take you by surprise. Time seems to stand still when inside the building with employees and decorations resembling the past.
The food served here will give you a sense of all American classic. The sweetness and tenderness of the hot dogs will make you foodgasm.
It is recommended that you try the hot dog. The beef comes from Vienna Beef so you know it is good. Another dish recommended is the Italian Beef. This food option will leave you wanting more, if you can manage it. To follow your main course you need to have the chocolate cake shake.
Service at Portillos is considered one the finest amongst chains. Since there are only 38 locations there is more of a small feel to the franchise and this allows the managers to be more personable to the staff. In result the staff is more personal to you. Busy times include lunch so be prepared.
