About Primanti Brothers

Working a sandwich cart during the Great Depression, Joe Primanti and his brothers saved to buy a storefront in Pittsburgh and have watched it grow ever since.

A change of ownership in the 70s saw 16 locations added to Pittsburgh alone. In 2007, the James Beard Foundation awarded Primanti’s as one of “America’s Classic Restaurants.”

Primanti Brothers Review

The very casual, fast-dining joint looks its age. Decor is wooden and cozy, with bright retro lettering and an open counter service.

Flavors aren’t very complex but everything is cooked well. There’s so many ingredients in just one sandwich that many customers are satisfied before they finish. One concern is that other locations don’t match the original’s dedication to food quality.

The menu is limited, with most sandwiches varying only by protein or one or two toppings. If you’re feeling a challenge, try the biggest one: the Colossal Fish and Cheese, which barely fits on a plate.

Service is quick and friendly. Wait times are 30 minutes at most even on the most crowded of holidays, and likely much shorter at night. Stop by for an iconic taste of Pittsburgh!
